bath for kitty kat

I accidentally spilled a glass of milk on Sealion today and his fur was all matted and gross. So, we gave him a bath. He has never had a bath before and he certainly did not enjoy it. He looked so cute afterward wrapped up in towel like a little baby, though.

nathaniel's art showing

On Sunday, we went to upstate New York to see Tim's brother, Nathaniel, and his art showing. He's currently an art student, and man, is he talented! I won't begin to describe his work; I'll let the pieces speak for themselves:

He is also a whiz at graphic design. Check out his logo for Food Day (and other additional works) here: http://eportfolio.pratt.edu/view/view.php?id=1447

life goal accomplished: work at an antique shop

Today I realized a long-standing goal of mine to work at an antique shop. I never thought I'd actually be able to do this because it's just an odd/unrealistic aspiration; however, the president of the board of where I work owns an antique shop called Antique Exchange, and he went on vacation, so I was privileged to fill in today. It was a lovely time and the store is replete with pretty things. I even got to help a woman think of some design ideas for her living room.

sunsets and gravy

Today was a beautiful day. Highs were in the upper 60s. Even the sunset was exquisite--reminiscent of summer evenings.

Below is a photo of a plate of fries and gravy that Tim and I shared at the Towson diner the other night. It is a classic Baltimore dish. I'm still not sure how I feel about it...

what i did at work today...

Some kind soul donated a wagon to the Family Center because our old wagon was too decrepit (as you can see in the back of the photo). This new wagon has two seats and four cup holders and is unlike any wagon I've ever seen. My co-worker pulled me around in it while I waved my hands around in happiness. I think this will be a daily ritual for us (as long as she's willing to pull me, that is).

All in a day's work at the Hampden Family Center.

house tour: spare room/office

Here are pictures of our spare room/office/room that holds our dresser because our bedroom is too small for it.

Note the movie poster of It's a Wonderful Life, my favorite film. My old friend, Briana, got that for me like 8 years ago and it's hung in 5 different apartments/houses.

Our apartment only has one tiny, tiny closet and a small food pantry, so we have to stuff all of our extra stuff behind our dresser. yuck.

wedding ring: John 15

When Tim and I were married, we purchased a cheap wedding ring at a closeout sale of a jewelry store featuring urban style jewelry. It was a nice looking ring, but it wasn't good quality, and one of the diamonds fell out and it didn't fit right, etc. Needless to say, I've been looking for a real ring for a while. I finally found one last week!

It's made from a mold of an old ring from the early 1900s and is in the art nouveau style. The reason I chose it was because of its design of grapes and vines. Grapes and vines are symbols in one of my favorite Bible passages in John 15, which says:

“I [Jesus] am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing [...] This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

So now when I look at my ring, I can dwell on this message of forever being faithful to Jesus.
